- Reading: We are reading Chapters 6 and 7 this week. I’m excited to see what adventures await Laura and Mary in their Little House in the Big Woods. The children have immersed themselves in the book and are asking wonderfully rich questions about what they are reading. We are also building our lap books as we go. It is great fun to see them coming together so nicely.
- Riggs: The students continue to have daily spelling tests, as well as homework Tuesday – Friday. Please continue to monitor their homework so that they are completing their worksheets every night and turning them in the next day. We have been noticing several “missing” assignments lately.
- Science: Insects continue to intrigue us. We are “moving” into locomotion this week. We will concentrate on walking, crawling, flying, swimming and water walking. The students will continue to see many wonderful close-up images of different insects in their environment during our daily lessons. With a little help, your child will be able to walk like an insect within a day or two. Be sure to ask what that is all about.
- History: The War of 1812 is over. The students did a great job and have gained wonderful insight into our country’s past. However, they aren’t finished yet. We are “moving west” starting this week. We will be studying about reasons for going west as well as different ways of travel. During today’s lesson, they worked on a map showing the area of the Louisiana Purchase.
Medieval Faire:
I encourage each of you to show your support for our school and our classroom by volunteering at the Faire. You are welcome to come and help out for a time slot while your child is having fun at the different events. I believe our activity will be the best by far. We are running the Bouncy Joust – it isn’t just for children. I’ve been told that many adults also participated in this event last year. You won’t want to miss it. Please go to our Sign-Up Genius link http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040F45ADAB283-medieval to sign up. If we can get everyone to participate, we can win money for the classroom. That would be wonderful.

Pioneer Living Museum
Our field trip to Pioneer Living Museum is scheduled for March 1st. If you would like to join us, please let me know. We will need volunteers to help, and the more, the merrier. For the safety of
our students, field trip chaperones must have a current fingerprint clearance card. I will be sending out more details and field trip permission forms very soon.
